Co-creating a smarter field operations model
A leading utility was modernizing its grid with advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) technology, aiming for greater efficiency and cost savings. But it needed to rethink its field operations to fully capture these benefits. That’s where West Monroe came in. We partnered with the utility’s project sponsors and field teams to analyze how AMI would change daily tasks, define new workforce processes, and develop an optimized staffing model. Through hands-on collaboration—including workflow mapping, time studies, and task redesign—we identified process improvements that could cut required labor hours by 12%, translating to more than $6 million in annual savings. With a clear path forward, the utility is now equipped to maximize its AMI investment and scale for future demand.
