Con Edison faced the challenge of turning complex data into insights while prioritizing analytics projects for maximum impact. West Monroe responded by hosting discovery workshops and interviewing over 50 engineers, managers, and leaders. Together, we uncovered critical opportunities across safety, operations, and maintenance. Our unique approach—combining utility expertise with advanced analytics—helped Con Edison prioritize these initiatives, aligning them with business goals. By identifying opportunities with clear value, we laid the groundwork for a data-driven decision-making culture.
To turn strategy into action, we partnered with Con Edison to implement agile delivery methods within their Digital Factory. We built data pipelines connecting critical systems like outage and work management to their EDAP, enabling rapid development of advanced analytics capabilities. With user-friendly dashboards, we automated key reliability metrics like CAIDI and flagged power quality issues such as flickering lights. These tools made grid data accessible to engineers, empowering them to proactively address issues and embed analytics into their daily work.
The impact of our collaboration is clear: Con Edison saved $13 million by enhancing safety, reduced risks through $9 million in power quality improvements, and avoided up to $20 million annually in penalties by improving reliability metrics like SAIFI and CAIDI. These outcomes not only boost operational efficiency but also strengthen regulatory reporting and customer experience. Most importantly, the success of these initiatives has energized Con Edison’s journey toward becoming a data-driven organization, with plans to extend analytics into transmission engineering and beyond.
Con Edison needed to prioritize analytics projects and achieve quick wins to maximize its technology investments and foster a culture of data-driven decision-making. A trusted partner in their grid modernization journey, West Monroe stepped in with a multidisciplinary approach to uncover high-impact opportunities in safety, operations, and maintenance. Together, we created a strategic roadmap, enabled agile delivery, and connected critical systems to their Enterprise Data Analytics Platform (EDAP). The results are measurable: $13 million in safety improvements, $9 million in power quality enhancements, and $20 million annually in avoided costs. This success sets the stage for continued innovation in analytics.
