Ian is passionate about driving value through data. In 2013, he harnessed that determination by founding Two Six Capital, the first organization of its kind to use data science to create an advantage in the private equity investment and value creation process.
Over seven years, he guided development of a unique analytics platform built on 25 years of intellectual property, academic research and the analysis of over $150 billion in granular transaction-level data. This has informed private equity transactions with a combined enterprise value of over $30 billion, as well as numerous value creation initiatives.
He believes companies can tell stories and drive insights – both good and bad – from their data. For example, he uses data science to understand what a company does well, how it can capitalize on momentum, and where it should invest, as well as how to improve and optimize to change its future trajectory.
He is an avid paella chef. Before his children were born, his pastimes included skiing, golf, and worldwide travel, as well as wine and agave-based spirits. While he still enjoys the latter, his spare time today involves activities with his three young children. He loves the weather and views in his San Francisco neighborhood.
He pushes teams to concentrate on key business issues and how to drive the most value as quickly as possible.
He serves on the boards of the Cathedral School for Boys in San Francisco and Wharton Customer Analytics, an academic research center at the University of Pennsylvania.
