Senior Center

The West Ouachita Senior Center, Inc. (WOSC), a non-profit United Way Agency, was established in 1980 and successfully administers community supportive services for seniors (60+), which enhance their dignity and support independence. Our staff has improved the quality of life for residents in western Ouachita Parish by offering advocacy efforts to monitor, protect, and improve every service which takes place within the Senior Center and those which emanate to other sites within the west Ouachita Parish. Our guiding principle for managing the Senior Center has been a code of ethics complemented by integrity, professionalism, and respect for diversity of people and ideas.

More than 5,000 seniors receive services that help them embrace healthy aging from the Senior Center every year.  In 2012, the Center was awarded the prestigious National Senior Center Accreditation.  Less than 2% of the senior centers nationwide reach the National Council on Aging’s Standards of Excellence.  West Monroe’s Senior Center is Louisiana’s only nationally accredited senior center.

The Senior Center provides safe and dependable transportation to vital destinations in Ouachita Parish.  It has received accolades from the Louisiana Department of Transportation for the “Highest Percentage of Ridership in Fiscal Year 2012/State Achievement Award” and the “Extra-Mile Award” for Professional Delivery of Transit Service within the Community.
