Marshal William M. Guyton was elected in 1991.

The territorial jurisdiction of this marshal's office is that of ward 5 in Ouachita Parish, not just within the city limits of West Monroe.

Ward 5 extends north to the Union Parish Line, east to the Ouachita River, west to Drew School, and south to Browder Road on LA 34.

Duties of Marshal's Office

All Deputies are hired under and held to the highest possible standards. Each Deputy performs his assigned tasks, day to day, in the courtroom, throughout City Hall, and on the streets of West Monroe.

Daily activities include:

  • Courtroom Security
  • Prisoner Transfer
  • Service of Papers
  • Serving Warrants
  • Executing Seizures
  • Writs of Possession
  • Seize and sale of property under the order of WMCC
  • Seize and disburse money through garnishments ordered by WMCC
  • Collect traffic and criminal fines
  • Collect cash bonds for bail

Deputy Marshals carry out their daily duties and assignments with courage and professionalism.  They pursue and arrest individuals who have failed to appear before the Court as ordered.  The Marshal's office ensures a secure environment for the City Court and provides personal protection for the Judge and his staff.

The Marshal's Office offers court security and provides professional expertise for the Court, and also transports prisoners, serves processes service papers, contempt of court warrants, and stay of execution warrants.  Other duties require the Deputy Marshals to seize property and manage assets acquired from civil activities, conduct Marshal sales and execute a wide variety of court orders.  One of the major services that the Marshal's office provides is to collect, audit, supply and distribute the fines and fees from the court for the city.  The Marshal and deputies serve their community by being there when needed.

The marshal shall execute the orders and mandates of the court and in the execution therof, and in making arrests and preserving the peace, he has the same powers and authority of a sheriff.

The marshal may appoint one or more deputy marshals having the same powers.
