The City of West Monroe requirts all businesses within the municipality to obtain an Occupational License upon commencement of the business and to renew it annually as long as the business is in operation as permitted by the Louisiana Revised Statutes 47:341, A & B. License fees are based on the gross revenue of the business and assessed according to Louisiana Occupational License Tax Tables beginning with RS 47:354.
To Obtain an Occupational License:
- After securing your location, submit your applicationfor a Certificate of Occupancy to the Building and Zoning Office, West Monroe City Hall, 2305 N. 7th St. A Certificate of Occupancy is verification by inspection that the premises comply with City Codes for safety. (You may download the form and fax to 318-397-2382)
- Complete the application for the Occupational License by going to the office at the City Hall or download it from this site and submit it with the appropriate fee to the Occupational License office in the West Monroe City Hall.
- When the inspections are completed and the C. 0 is issued, the License will be mailed to you along with the C. O.
- Occupational License will renew annually on January 1 until the City is notified that the business has closed.
- Retail businesses must obtain a West Monroe Sales Tax number when the business opens. You may download that form from this site and fax it to the Sales Tax Office at 318-329-2362. The office number is on the form if you have any questions.
For Home based businesses:
- Complete the application for Certificate of Occupancy by downloading the form from this site and faxing it to 318-397-2382 or by submitting the form to the Building and Zoning office at the West Monroe City Hall to determine the type of license required and to obtain Zoning approval.
- Complete the required application for the Occupational License and submit it along with the appropriate fee to the Occupational License office in the West Monroe City Hall.

INSURANCE PREMIUM TAX
Insurance Premium taxes are based on premiums generated from the City of West Monroe and reported to the Insurance commissioner each year by the Insurance company. The tax is due on January 1 and considered past due after June 1. Filing forms may be downloaded from this site.
