PUBLIC EDUCATION
Our personnel are always available for businesses to hold “Public Education” seminars to teach their employees a quick and safe way to extinguish a fire or the fastest escape route. Children are our specialty, teaching fire safety by tours at the stations and visiting schools. In 2006 our firefighters instructed fire safety precautions to over 1300 children.
Another public service we provide is our smoke detector program. Through donations we provide and install smoke detectors to anyone in the city that doesn't have one at no cost. To request a smoke detector for your home please call 397-0758.
BUILDING INSPECTIONS
To “Minimize Losses and Suffering” our Fire Prevention Bureau inspects over 1,400 businesses, in addition to all new construction, on an annual basis. The new construction sites are visited each Monday to ensure code compliance. Certificate of Occupancy inspections are scheduled and performed at the convenience of both the new business owner and the inspections office. The firefighters perform Pre-Fire Surveys at each business every six months, updating information as well as drawing the floor plan of the building to familiarize themselves of the layout for quick access in case of an emergency.
