The Water We Drink
The drinking water supply for the City of West Monroe comes from six underground water wells which draw from the Sparta Aquifer. The six water wells pump an average of 750 gallons per minute. Added together we have the ability to pump more than 5 million gallons of water per day. We work around the clock to provide safe, clean, quality water to every tap.
The City of West Monroe is pleased to report that our drinking water is safe and meets all federal and state requirements. We ask that all of our customers help us to protect our water sources, which are the heart of our community, our way of life and our children’s future.
Streets & Drainage
The primary responsibilities of the Streets and Drainage Division are the repair and maintenance of dedicated city streets, alleys, drainage canals, drainage pipes, and roadside ditches. We also size and install culverts for property owners.
Our mowing crews maintain all City Street right-of-ways, state and interstate right-of-ways within our city limits, along with a cemetery, park, and various public buildings.
We are also on-call 24 hours a day to handle hazardous or weather-related emergencies.
The Traffic Department is responsible for maintenance of traffic signs and signals throughout the City. We also provide street striping and barricades as requested for all departments.
Water Distribution & Waste Water Collection
The mission of this department is to provide safe and efficient maintenance of the water distribution and sewage collection systems. We continue to promote and support mandatory certification of all our operators. We strive to improve the quality of life for the citizens of West Monroe through safe drinking water and protection of the environment.
Our activities include inflow, infiltration and manhole repairs, maintenance of water service lines from Treatment Plant to the meters, fire hydrants and valves. We operate 24 hours a day to assure that the best service is provided for the City of West Monroe.
