The City of West Monroe’s building inspection department is responsible for issuing permits and performing inspections for all building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work performed within the corporate limits of West Monroe. As the city continues to grow, the inspection department continues to grow with it. Construction within the city limits is at an all-time high, and the need for a building inspection department is just as important now as ever before. After hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the southern gulf coast of Louisiana, the Department of Public Safety formed the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council, a committee to oversee the adoption and implementation of a state wide construction code. In January of 2007 the City of West Monroe adopted the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code.
