International Environmental Award Presented to West Monroe’s Sparta Reuse Facility

West Monroe, LA – The internationally based Green Organization has awarded a 2016 Green Apple Silver Award to the City of West Monroe’s Sparta Reuse Facility for Best Environmental Practice. The presentation Ceremony was held on November 11th in London, England at the House of Commons, Palace of Westminster.

On behalf of the City of West Monroe and Mayor Dave Norris, Terry Emory, West Monroe Environmental Quality Manager, traveled to London, England to receive the award.

“Mayor Dave Norris has championed the development of the Sparta Reuse Facility’s sustainable water technology since the middle of the 1990s. We are extremely proud of the innovative, water-recycling technology we have developed at the Sparta Reuse Facility. Without Mr. Norris’ substantial support and encouragement we would not be where we are today,” Terry Emory said. “By building and maintaining this facility the City of West Monroe has helped stabilize the Sparta Aquifer for the residents of Northeast Louisiana for years to come.”

This is the ninth national award and second international award presented to the Sparta Reuse Facility.

The Green Apple Environment Awards were launched in 1994 by The Green Organization and have been recognized as one of the preeminent environmental awards in the world. The Green Apple Awards are one of the only international environmental awards to meet the demanding criteria of the European Commission’s European Business Awards for the Environment. The Sparta Reuse Facility received the Best Environmental Practice Utilities for Sustainable Water Management Silver award.
